In October 2013, the Liverpool Road Dental Practice had their first Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection.  The CQC are the healthcare regulator whose job is to check whether hospitals, care homes and care services are meeting essential standards.  The inspection was carried out on site, here at the Liverpool Road Dental Practice on October 22nd 2013.  The following standards were inspected as part of this unannounced inspection:

  • Respecting and involving people who use services
  • Care and welfare of people who use services
  • Cleanliness and infection control
  • Requirements relating to workers
  • Supporting workers
  • Assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision

The inspector looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a site visit, observed how people were being cared for and talked with people who use the service.  They talked with carers and/or family members, talked with staff, reviewed information given by the provider and talked with the commissioners of services.

Prior to, during and after the inspection, the CQC Inspector spoke with people who used the service.  The people spoken with told the inspector they were very happy with the service and the treatment they received.  One person quoted, "The dentist has been brilliant, I was very nervous, but he put me at ease."

The Inspector saw that people were provided with care and treatment that met their needs, options were discussed and people were enabled to make informed decisions about the treatment recommended.  Infection control procedures were found to be effective and ensured that people were protected from the risk of cross infection.

The Inspector noted that staff recruitment and induction procedures ensured that people who used the service received care and treatment from staff who were properly vetted and suitable to work at the practice.  Coupled with this, arrangements were in place for the supervision and appraisal of staff, meetings were arranged regularly and training opportunities were available, ensuring qualifications, skills and experience were appropriate.

The Inspector noted that the service was well run and there were effective management arrangements in place and audits of the quality of service were undertaken regularly to ensure that satisfactory standards were maintained.

As a practice we were delighted with the outcome of the inspection and the detail contained within the report reflected the hard work and dedication made by each and every staff member to provide a first class service to all of our patients.  To read the full and detailed version of the CQC Inspection please see the CQC webiste at www.cqc.org.uk

If anybody wishes to receive a copy of the report in print format please do not hesitate to speak with the Practice Manager who will happily provide this.
